One of our team recently went to visit their senior parents recentl, both of whom have on-going medical conditions. She was quite shocked by the number of medication boxes stacked up in their bathroom. All were prescribed medications, but not all were taken all the time. What’s more, after a recent stay in hospital, some drugs had been changed and were no longer required.
Multiple medicines
If you take medication for an on-going chronic condition, or when recovering from illness or surgery, you’ll recognise this situation! You’ve probably ben prescribed several types of medications. Most will probably be in capsule form, and you’ll take a certain number at regular intervals throughout the day.
However, taking capsules isn’t to everyone’s liking, or indeed, ability. You might have difficulty swallowing capsules, or cutting pills in half to achieve the right dose. What’s more, you might not actually need all the dose of a medication that’s in a capsule, but you can’t divide it.
Introducing compounding
This is why we’re passionate about compounding. Compounding is the process of creating individual, personalized medicines in exactly the right doses you require. Our trained pharmacists can create preparations that combine your medicines into one single form, and avoid ingredients that you may be allergic or intolerant to.
These personalised medicines can then be delivered into your body the best way for you, be it capsules, fizzy drink or liquids you swallow, gel squares (tronches) that dissolve under your tongue, creams, lotions, sprays, drops or suppositories. With our expertise in sterile compounding, we can even prepare preservative-free injections and IV solutions.
